Open Minds Theatre Company was founded four years ago by Steve Rogers and Katherine Fletcher. It was until recently the only professional theatre company based in Rotherham and in the last four years has firmly established itself as a major player in the growing art scene in the borough The fact that our turnover in that time has increased more than six fold is some indicator of our success..
We started with the idea that most of our work would be working with schools on re-engagement programmes, people with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups but since then our work has diversified considerably.
Aims
- To establish a theatre company, which will contribute to the regeneration of the area through working with different groups of people on long term projects.
- To provide a service to schools through supplying courses which will enhance their provision
- To provide courses for disadvantaged groups which could enhance qualifications, self esteem and communication skills
- To provide the opportunity for public performance to a wider group of people
- To provide courses for teachers in how to incorporate Drama into their teaching methods
- To use performance drama as a means of opening peoples minds and combating bigotry and prejudice.
