Youth Theatre Young

Our Youth Theatre Young is for young people aged 7-14. We run exciting and lively sessions during term time on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm with extra sessions during the summer holidays and some weekend rehearsals. Our young people have the opportunity to learn about drama, dance and singing in a fun environment with no discrimination which not only enhances their speaking, listening and performance skills but also their social skills. The Youth Theatre works towards two performances each year. To date the Youth Theatre Young have performed Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cinderella, The King of Spain’s Treasure, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and collaborated with the Youth Theatre Old on The Wizard of Oz.

Youth Theatre Old

Our Youth Theatre Old is for young people aged 13-18. We run weekly sessions during term time on a Monday evening 6-8pm. The sessions include acting training, vocal coaching and dance. We aim to equip our young people with the skills they need to continue performing throughout their lifetime. The group work towards a community performance every year which is shown in Primary Schools. As part of this project the group are trained in leading games and exercises for younger children. This gives our participants a wider knowledge and skills base of how drama can be used in their future career. The Youth Theatre also works towards three performances per year; these have included The Wizard of Oz, various Shakespeare plays and they performed the world-premier of the newly written ‘Meet me by the Steelmen’. This was sold out and performed in Meadowhall shopping centre and the Magna centre. A DVD of the play with production notes and music was provided to every primary school in the area.

Youth Theatre Early

This is our newest project and we hope to have it up and running by Spring 09. Our Youth Theatre Early is for young people aged 4-7. We will run an hour long session weekly combining dance and drama and fitness. The Youth Theatre will run alongside a session for parents on active parenting and relaxation. The young people will gain an early insight into performing using their voices and bodies as well as enhancing early social skills. Using action songs, nursery rhymes and play we will help develop dexterity, fitness, vocal use and confidence.
